ARRA Title II-D Technology Professional Development Grants

FUNDS ALLOCATED: $ 580,709 (Federal)
FUNDS REQUESTED: $ 841,843
PURPOSE: the purpose of these federal grant programs is to provide both face-to-face and online professional development institutes in integrating modern technologies in the mathematics, science & technology/engineering (STEM), and English language arts curriculum areas. In these programs, high need school districts will partner with qualified institute providers to offer selected professional development institutes to teachers across the state.

RESULT OF FUNDING:Funding from these programs will support the 2011 statewide content institutes in integrating modern technologies in mathematics, science, technology/engineering (STEM), and English language arts curriculum areas. Twelve institutes will be presented under the following course titles: New Literacies in Reading, Comprehension, and Communication; Fractions Online; Math Progressions; Advanced Mathematics Decision Making; Developing Mathematical Practices in Geometry, Algebra II and Beyond; Implanting Technology/Engineering Standards; Teaching Earth and Space Science; Laboratory-Based Chemistry; Laboratory-Based Physics I: Mechanics; and Laboratory-Based Physics II: Electricity and Magnetism. The institutes will be offered during the summer of 2011 and will include follow-up sessions in the fall to support implementation in the classroom. The institutes will be available to educators statewide and will be offered online or face-to-face. The implementation of these programs will serve approximately 300 educators and 6,000 students.

Grant awards range from $27,221 to $200,000.
