| PURPOSE: the purpose of the federal grant programs is to provide both face-to-face and online professional development institutes to assist teachers in closing the achievement gap in their schools and improving student learning. In these programs, high need school districts will partner with qualified institute providers to offer selected professional development institutes to teachers across the state. |

| RESULT OF FUNDING:Funding from these programs will support the 2010 statewide Content Institutes. Five institutes will be presented in the following curriculum areas: new literacy in reading, comprehension, and communication; fractions in mathematics; high school biology; and earth and space science. Four institutes will be offered during the summer of 2010 and will include follow-up sessions in the fall and winter to support implementation in the classroom. One institute will be offered in the fall and will include follow-up sessions during the 2010-2011 school year. Institutes will be available to educators statewide and will be offered online or face-to-face. The implementation of these programs will serve approximately 200 educators and 3,000 students. Grant awards range from $14,340 to $60,000. |
