STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Pilot Program for Accelerated High School Students

| Purpose: | In accordance with state budget line item 7061-9612, the purpose of this grant program is to provide a grant to the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, for the development and implementation of a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) pilot program for academically advanced students in their final two (2) years of high school. |
| Priorities: | Program priorities are to:
plan, develop, and conduct a pilot program in preparation for establishing a new program in mathematics, science, engineering, and technology;
focus on academically accelerated students in their final two (2) years of high school; and
serve a well-balanced population, as is possible, including male and female students. |
| Eligibility: | Targeted eligibility. The grant will be awarded to the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. |
| Funding: | $850,000 |
| Fund Use: | Funds may be used for specified purposes including: consultants; presenters; instruction; program development; materials; recruitment; and assessment. |
| Project Duration: | Upon Approval - 6/30/2009 |

| Additional Information: |
A project description must be submitted along with the required forms noted above. The description should convey the structure of the proposed program, who will be recruited to participate, and a timeline for implementing the program.
A report detailing the accomplishments of the program is due to the Department by August 15, 2009.
