| Purpose: |
The purpose of this regional grant program is to provide federal school improvement funds to districts to address areas of common need among Title I schools in accountability status. |
| Priorities: |
Grant funds will provide support for activities that serve to improve the following:
teacher content knowledge;
instructional practices;
student assessment systems (interim and formative);
academic interventions and supports; and
non-academic student support services. |
| Eligibility: |
Districts, collaboratives, or state colleges/universities applying on behalf of three or more districts within one of the regional areas below are eligible.
Districts having the greatest need for assistance based upon accountability status and percentage of low-income students; eligible districts are:
Title I Districts in Corrective Action; and/or
districts with at least one Title I Commonwealth Priority School (a school identified for Corrective Action or Restructuring in the aggregate); and/or
districts with at least one Title I school in Restructuring for subgroups in English Language Arts (ELA) and/or mathematics.
Note: Districts that have been awarded or will be awarded FY2009 federal school improvement funds under Fund Code: 323-A are not eligible to apply for or receive services through this grant. A complete list of eligible districts and schools is attached in Additional Information. |
| Funding: |
Grants will be a minimum of $30,000 each. The targeted total amount of awards for each regional area is as follows.
| Central Massachusetts | $260,000 |
| Northeastern Massachusetts | $275,000 |
| Western Massachusetts | $320,000 |
| Southeastern Massachusetts | $200,000 |
| Greater Boston | $500,000 |
| | $1,555,000 Total |

| Fund Use: |
Fund use must be consistent with the priorities described above and may include costs associated with: professional development and training; stipends for teachers beyond contractual hours; substitutes; travel and mileage associated with training; administrative costs associated with management of initiatives; and materials or supplies related to the overall grant proposal. Other expenditures related specifically to the proposed initiative will be considered in context. |
