Comprehensive School Health Education Assessment Trainer School-Based Program (Federal)

Purpose:

The purpose of the federally-funded Comprehensive School Health Education Assessment Trainer program is to:

  1. provide classroom health education teachers with the knowledge and skills to assess students in health education classes;

  2. provide classroom health education teachers with the resources and materials to aid in the implementation of standards-based health education assessment;

  3. build the capacity of classroom health education teachers in using rubrics to measure outcomes of student learning; and

  4. build the capacity of school communities to provide effective, assessment-based health education for all students.

Priorities:

Priority will be given to proposals that:

  1. demonstrate a commitment to promoting the Massachusetts Health Curriculum Framework and the National Health Education Standards;

  2. demonstrate a minimum experience of four (4) years teaching classroom-based health education;

  3. demonstrate trainer competency with standards-based health education assessment in classroom-based health education;

  4. provide evidence of the use SCASS/HEAP rubrics to assess student knowledge and skills in health education classes;

  5. demonstrate trainer capacity to engage, motivate, and teach adult learners in standards-based health education assessment; and

  6. provide a written statement of support from the principal to provide the necessary time and and support for this project.

Eligibility: Public school districts are eligible to apply.
Funding: A total of $10,000 is available, subject to appropriation. The Department reserves the right to alter the award to each funded school district. Applicants may apply for up to $2,500.
Fund Use:

Districts awarded funding shall provide a stipend of not more than $1,500 to the Health Education Assessment Trainer. Remaining funds from this grant award can be used for substitutes, in-state travel, and/or materials to support health education assessment within the district.

Efforts will be made to ensure funds are awarded to a range of geographic regions within the Commonwealth.
