Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2008

After-School and Out-of-School Time Quality Grant
Fund Code: 530

MEMORANDUM

To: After-School and Out-of-School Time Providers and Other Interested Parties
From: David P. Driscoll, Commissioner of Education
Date: June 19, 2007
Subject: Request for Proposals for After-School and Out-of-School Time Quality Grant

I am pleased to announce the release of the After-School and Out-of-School Time Quality Grant Request for Proposals. Through this grant program, the Department of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Early Education and Care, seeks to provide students with access to high quality after-school and out-of-school time programs and services. High quality after-school programs can complement a child's school day experiences and provide another venue where students can learn the critical skills they need to grow physically, socially, emotionally, and academically in order to be productive and contributing citizens.

It is the intent of the Department of Education to work with the Department of Early Education and Care to coordinate this program with other such programs in both agencies in order to strive towards a system that addresses program quality, access, affordability, and continuity of care of after-school and out-of-school time services, outside of the regular school day, for children and youth in need of such services.

Public schools, non-public schools, community-based agencies, and 21st Century Community Learning Centers are eligible to apply and are encouraged to develop proposals collaboratively.

I thank you for all the work you do on behalf of children and youth throughout the Commonwealth.
