Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2008

Vocational Technical Education Framework in Criminal Justice
Fund Code: 413-B

Purpose: The purpose of this federal grant is to develop a Vocational Technical Education Framework in Criminal Justice and a Program of Study Grid that would be used for Chapter 74-approved vocational technical education programs and that may also be used for non-Chapter 74 career and technical education programs.
Priorities:

The grant will support the following activities:

  1. formation of a committee comprised of:

    1. law enforcement experts;

    2. security experts;

    3. educators currently teaching criminal justice at the two and four-year college level;

    4. educators currently teaching criminal justice at the secondary level;

    5. at least one attorney with current experience in criminal justice;

    6. at least one educator with current experience in the development of a Vocational Technical Education Framework;

    7. at least one educator with current experience in the development of a Program of Study Grid;

    8. at least one academic curriculum coordinator associated with secondary-level career/vocational technical education programs; and

    9. at least one labor market expert;

  2. committee work in the development of a Vocational Technical Education Framework in Criminal Justice based on the six strands associated with all aspects of the industry as exemplified by the current Vocational Technical Education Frameworks at http://www.doe.mass.edu/cte/frameworks/; and

  3. committee work in the development of a Program of Study Grid for Criminal Justice based on the model contained in the MA Tech-Prep Manual for Consortia and Site Coordinators, Superintendents, and Principals Download MS WORD Document.

Eligibility: Eligible partnerships are those comprised of at least one school district with an actual or proposed secondary-level program in criminal justice, at least one community college with a criminal justice certificate or associate degree program, and at least one four-year college with a criminal justice program at the baccalaureate degree level. One school district in the partnership must be designated as the lead agency. The lead agency must designate an individual to be the partnership administrator.
Funding: One grant will be awarded to one partnership through the lead agency at a maximum of $40,000. Funding is from the federal Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 P.L. 109-270.
Fund Use: Funds must be used in accordance with the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 P.L.109-270.
