Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2008

School Redesign: Expanded Learning Time Implementation
Fund Code: 225

Purpose: The purpose of this state-funded grant program is to provide financial assistance to districts with schools that have increased learning time schedules by at least 25% for the 2007-2008 school year or are continuing to operate schools with at least 25% more time.
Priorities:

Priorities are to provide resources that support the implementation of approved Implementation Plans in specified schools to:

  1. provide more instructional opportunities in mathematics, literacy, science, and other core subjects to support student achievement;

  2. integrate enrichment opportunities into student learning; and

  3. provide educators with increased opportunities to plan and participate in professional development activities.

Eligibility: School districts with approved FY2008 Expanded Learnin g Time Implementation Plans are eligible to apply.
Funding: Approximately $12,394,000 is available. Individual district amounts are attached. If the school's October 2007 enrollment figures are more than 10% below anticipated enrollment numbers noted on the chart, the grant award may be reduced to reflect the new enrollment.
Fund Use: Funds may be used for salaries, stipends, contracts, consultants, travel for training, instructional materials, and other approved expenses associated with operating expanded school schedules.

Appendix A - Evaluation Participation agreement

NOTE: Because this RFP has an end date of June 30, 2008, districts that plan to provide activities from 7/1/2008 - 8/31/2008 must submit a separate budget with a narrative explaining the summer work. Please submit the preliminary budget and narrative at this time.
