Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2008

State Targeted Assistance Priority I Status Schools (Chronic Underperformance)
Fund Code: 221-C

Purpose: The purpose of this state-funded grant program is to support improvement efforts in schools with Priority I status (Chronic Underperformance) or schools recommended for Priority I status by the Commissioner of Education under the Massachusetts school accountability system.
Priority: The priority is to help support the implementation of agreed upon initiatives to address performance deficiencies still in evidence at these schools as included in Board of Elementary and Secondary Education approved plans or in this grant application.
Eligibility:

The Department will make awards in the designated amounts to:

  1. Priority I Schools; or

  2. Schools recommended for Priority I status.

Funding:

Grants awards of up to $75,000 are available for each of the following schools.

  1. Henry Lord Middle School (Fall River)

  2. Matthew Kuss Middle School (Fall River)

  3. Dr. William R Peck Middle School (Holyoke)

  4. John J. Lynch Middle School (Holyoke)

  5. Arlington Middle School (Lawrence)

  6. White Street School (Springfield)

  7. Gerena School (Springfield)

  8. M. Marcus Kiley Middle School (Springfield)

Fund Use: Fund use must be consistent with the priority described above and may only include costs attributable directly to activities and initiatives that are designed to address ongoing academic deficiencies.
Project Duration:

Funds are available for use through August 31, 2008. If you intend to use a portion of these funds during July and/or August 2008, the following items need to be submitted:

  1. Two (2) Part I - General - Program Unit Signature Pages (Standard Contract Form and Application for Program Grants):

    • School Year Program: Approval - 6/30/2008; and

    • Summer Program: 7/1/2008 - 8/31/2008.

  2. Two (2) Budget Detail Forms:

    • School Year Program: expenditures from Approval - 6/30/2008; and

    • Summer Program: expenditures from 7/1/08 - 8/31/2008.
