Leadership Development in Five Urban Districts
Fund Code: 176

Purpose: The purpose of this state-funded continuation grant program is to provide five urban districts with funds for onsite leadership coaching. Leadership coaching will help each district strengthen the Leadership Team, distribute leadership at the district level, and implement lessons learned through the National Institute for School Leadership (NISL) training. The experiences of the five districts will help to inform the state's work to promote leadership coaching.
Priorities:

Priorities for this grant program include:

  • strengthening, individually and collectively, the leadership skills and effectiveness of the district Leadership Team;

  • developing future leaders by promoting and distributing leadership at the school level; and

  • using leadership as a lever to improve student achievement.

Eligibility: School districts participating in the state-sponsored National Institute for School Leadership (NISL) training and that were funded in FY2006 are eligible to apply.
Funding: $150,000 is available for this program. Districts may apply for up to $30,000 each.
Fund Use:

Funds may be used for:

  • personnel costs (e.g., salaries, stipends, consultants, benefits, and in-state travel) associated with onsite, in-district coaching and support for district Leadership Teams;

  • materials and training to support the delivery of district-based leadership development and to build the district's capacity to sustain leadership development; and

  • data collection to track leadership's impact on student achievement. No more than fifteen percent of the funds should be allocated to data collection.
