Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2007

Leadership Development in Boston Public Schools

Purpose: The purpose of this state-funded grant is to continue to support the Boston Public School's Leadership Development System and to assist in the continued development of a program for aspiring and current administrators. A medical residency model will provide participants with a year-long, hands-on learning experience in the school of a high performing Principal. This model program will offer important lessons to other districts that are just beginning to focus attention on building leadership capacity.
Priorities:

Priorities for this grant program include:

  • training a cohort of eight (8) aspiring Principals through the Boston Principals' Fellowship;

  • conducting a 10 month, four-day Principal Residency in one of Boston's most effective schools to provide the context for authentic work-based learning and daily mentoring by the host Principal; and

  • continuing to develop the Leadership Development System in Boston and creating a pool of prospective instructional leaders.

Eligibility: Boston Public Schools is eligible to apply.
Funding: $372,000 is available for this leadership initiative.
Fund Use: Funds may be used for personnel costs (e.g., salaries, stipends, consultants, benefits, and in-state travel) associated with the continuing development of this program for current and aspiring Assistant Principals. Funds may also be used for materials and training in support of the program development and delivery.
