Fund Code: 340/345/359

Purpose: The purpose of this grant program is to support Community Adult Learning Centers that provide high quality Adult Basic Education and integrated family literacy services.
Priorities:

Priorities are to support:

  • Community Adult Learning Centers that propose services that are integrated with age appropriate education for children (PreK through grade 2) and/or family services and can demonstrate significant co-investment of a partner;

  • Community Adult Learning Centers that coordinate family literacy services with a PreK through grade 2 education program or public school;

  • Community Adult Learning Centers that coordinate family literacy services with family service (parenting support/education, interactive literacy) providers; and

  • family literacy services in communities that have identified the need for coordination between adult and children's educational services in their ABE strategic plan and/or a school or district improvement plan.

Eligibility: Eligible applicants must also be applying for Community Adult Learning Center Funds. Eligibility for funding for the Family Literacy Program Service Option is contingent upon the approval of funding for the Community Adult Learning Center.
Funding: Refer to Table 1 for specific regional allocations for Fund Code 340/345/359.
Fund Use:

Funds must be used to coordinate the collaboration between partnering organizations in order to support the integration of existing family literacy components (Adult Basic Education, PreK through grade 2 education, interactive literacy, parenting support/education, and home visits) into a comprehensive and unified family literacy program.

Funds may be used to support a coordinator to identify and recruit families and to serve as a liaison to partnering organizations (e.g., PreK through grade 2 education program or public school and/or family service providers).

Funds may be used for interactive literacy activities (literacy based activities that promote interaction between parents and their children) and/or parenting support/education non-rate based classes.
