School Finance: Chapter 70 Program
FY06 Foundation Reserve Program
Announcement of Round 1 Awards and
Application Instructions for Round 2
The foundation reserve ("pothole") awards from the first round of applications are listed at the end of this advisory. First round awards were made to those municipalities and school districts that met the criteria for one of the priority categories established by the Legislature. Official award notices will be mailed later this month.
School districts may now apply for a discretionary award in the second round for other extraordinary and unanticipated needs. A total of $1.3 million is available for the second round. To apply, the superintendent should submit a brief (1-2 pp.) letter containing the following information:
Please submit the application to:
Massachusetts Department of Education
c/o Jeff Wulfson
350 Main Street
Malden, MA 02148-5023
Only one copy is required. The deadline for submission is November 4. No fax or email submissions, please.
Please note that due to the limited funding available, awards will be limited to truly extraordinary or unusual circumstances. Fiscal needs that are faced by most school districts, such as high costs for health insurance, special education, heating oil, or facility repairs, unfortunately cannot be addressed through this program.
