Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2010

School Redesign and Restructuring: Priority Assistance Grant
Fund Code: 510-G

Purpose: The purpose of this federal grant program is to provide funds to support substantial turnaround efforts (redesign and restructuring) at schools that are operating under design or improvement plans approved by the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education or the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Priorities:

The priority is to help support the implementation of agreed upon initiatives that address chronic areas of low student performance as articulated in school improvement plans and/or design plans. Grant funds can be used to support the following categories that are connected to the schools' needs:

  1. development of professional learning communities;

  2. strengthening of instructional practices;

  3. student assessment systems (interim and formative);

  4. academic interventions and supports;

  5. non-academic student support services; or

  6. school organization and culture.

Eligibility: Title I schools with current Commonwealth Pilot School status or Chronically Underperforming status are eligible to apply.
Funding: Grant awards of up to approximately $150,000 are available. Priority will be given to current Commonwealth Pilot and Chronically Underperforming schools. See Additional Information for a list of individual district allocations.
Fund Use:

Fund use should be consistent with the priorities described above, including:

  1. costs associated with professional development and training;

  2. planning activities and administrative costs associated with management of initiatives;

  3. stipends for district staff working outside contractual obligations;

  4. travel and mileage associated with training; and

  5. supplies related to grant activities.
