Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2010

Perkins IV - Distributive Education Clubs of America Career/Vocational Technical Student Organization
Fund Code: 414-A2

Purpose: The purpose of this federal grant program is to provide funds to coordinate the Massachusetts Distributive Education Clubs of America organization statewide, especially with respect to increasing the participation of students who are members of special populations. Funding is from the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act P. L. 109-270 (Perkins IV).
Priorities: Priorities are to increase the participation of students who are members of special populations (students with disabilities, students with limited proficiency in English, students from economically disadvantaged families, including foster children, students who are single parents and/or pregnant, and students pursuing careers that are nontraditional for their gender).
Eligibility: School districts and community colleges are eligible to apply for this competitive grant that would serve chapters statewide.
Funding: Total Funds Available: $40,000 statewide. One (1) grant will be awarded to one school district or community college for a maximum of $40,000. The grant may be renewable for additional fiscal years based upon performance and availability of funds.
Fund Use:

Funds must be used in accordance with Perkins IV and the Massachusetts Perkins IV Manual. Funds may be requested for staff who would coordinate statewide activities. Funds shall not be requested or used for:

  1. lodging, feeding, conveying, or furnishing transportation to conventions;

  2. purchase of supplies, jackets, and other effects for students' personal ownership;

  3. cost of non-instructional activities such as athletic, social, or recreational events;

  4. printing and disseminating non-instructional newsletters;

  5. purchase of awards for recognition of students, advisors, and other individuals;

  6. payment of student membership dues;

  7. anything that would supplant local or state funds; and

  8. mini grants.
