Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2010

Perkins IV Rural Districts 2009-2010
Fund Code: 409

Purpose: The purpose of this federal competitive grant project is to improve career/vocational technical education programs in rural districts. The grant will assist rural districts that will not be recipients of Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act (Perkins IV) allocation funds due to minimum amount requirements and/or lack of personnel and resources needed to form or join a consortium in order to prepare a Local Plan.
Priorities: The priorities are to improve existing career/vocational technical education programs and the outcomes for students enrolled in the programs.
Eligibility:

In order to apply for a grant, districts must meet all three (3) of the following criteria.

  1. The district or high school must be defined as rural* in the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

  2. The district and high school must have student enrollment in Data Element DOE035 (Career/Vocational Technical Education) in the Student Information Management System (SIMS) for 2008-2009.

  3. The district will not have a Perkins Act Local Plan for 2009-2010.

* To determine rural status, go to the NCES ID link at http://nces.ed.gov/.

Funding: Districts may apply for one grant of up to $15,000. It is anticipated that several $15,000 grants will be awarded. Perkins IV is the funding source.
Fund Use:

Proposed uses of funds must be consistent with at least some of the nine required uses of perkins iv allocation grant funds described in the Massachusetts Perkins IV Manual at Download PDF Document http://www.doe.mass.edu/cte/perkins/perkins_manual.pdf.

Awarded funds must be used in accordance with the approved proposal and grant application.
