Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2010

Commissioner's Districts Title I School Improvement
Fund Code: 323-A

Purpose: The purpose of this federal grant program is to continue to support the state's largest urban districts and their Title I-served schools in Restructuring, Corrective Action, or Improvement status (FY2010) by building capacity for sustained school improvement.
Priority:

The priorities are to continue to:

  1. enable districts to build capacity for school improvement through the implementation of specific initiatives as described in the FY2010 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and each school district; and

  2. enable districts to address the causes of school-level accountability status.

Eligibility: Commissioner's Districts with eligible Title I schools may apply. These public school districts are: Boston; Brockton; Fall River; Holyoke; Lawrence; Lowell; Lynn; New Bedford; Springfield; and Worcester.
Funding: Eligible districts will be awarded an amount equal to the award for the Fund Code: 323-A grant they received in FY2009. An additional amount will be awarded after official AYP results are released in October. At that time, total FY2010 amounts will be calculated using a formula based on the district's Title I student enrollment and yet-to-be-determined state and federal accountability status. Districts will then be asked to amend their grants up to the amount calculated for the total FY2010 award.
Fund Use: Expenditures should be consistent with initiatives described in the FY2010 MOU. (See the Priority section above.)
