| Purpose: | The purpose of this federal grant program is to help families overcome intergenerational cycles of illiteracy and poverty by providing integrated early childhood education, adult literacy, and parenting education in a unified family literacy program. |
| Priorities: | Priorities are to:
serve families most in need with high quality instructional programs that enable parents and children to develop a strong educational foundation to reach their full personal, social, and economic potential;
implement a research-based model that will demonstrate the effectiveness of integrated services for families that will yield the strongest outcomes to support parents and their children in achieving learning and performance standards;
demonstrate cooperation, coordination, and collaboration among a variety of relevant service providers;
build capacity within communities to incorporate strategies and practices that support all parents as partners in their children's education to ensure school success; and
develop and implement models that may be adopted by other communities. |
| Eligibility: | Recipients of FY2009 Even Start Family Literacy Program awards that are in mid-cycle are eligible to apply in the communities of Fall River and Waltham. |
| Funding: | Two continuation grant awards are expected to be made, subject to satisfactory past program performance and the appropriation of federal funds. |
