Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2010

Adult Basic Education Instructional Programs for Incarcerated Adults
Fund Code: 285/563

Purpose: The purpose of this grant program is to establish free access to Adult Basic Education services for offenders, age 16 or older, who are in correctional institutions across the Commonwealth. Services will enhance the ability of institutionalized offenders to read, write, and speak English and to compute and solve problems at levels of proficiency necessary to function in society upon release from the correctional facility. Students will achieve their goals and develop their potential as individuals and as citizens.
Priorities: ABE Instructional Programs for Incarcerated Adults that have demonstrated the capacity to provide effective Adult Basic Education services to the incarcerated and other institutionalized adults.
Eligibility: Eligible applicants are FY2009 recipients of awards under the Instructional Educational Programs for the Incarcerated and other grant programs for Institutionalized Adults that meet state and federal program and funding criteria.
