Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2010

State Targeted Assistance Grant to Support Implementation of Summer 2009 Academic Intervention Programs Developed in Collaboration with Department (ESE) Supported School Improvement Assistance Centers

Purpose: The purpose of this state-funded grant program is to support district implementation of innovative Academic Intervention programs that have been designed in collaboration with a Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (Department) supported School Improvement Assistance Center to prepare at-risk students to navigate successfully the transition to high school and succeed in meeting high school performance requirements.
Priorities:

Priority will be given to districts with plans to develop innovative student intervention programs that:

  1. provide effective learning opportunities designed to improve student academic outcomes;

  2. engage students in programs not otherwise available to them during the summer months;

  3. address specifically the challenges of 8th grade students transitioning to 9th grade high school environments;

  4. include an embedded professional development component for participating teachers; and

  5. support opportunities for professional collaboration and learning between the participating district and other districts.

Eligibility: The Department will make one grant award for up to $25,000 to one district chosen to participate in Year One of this project.
Funding: One grant of up to $25,000 will be awarded.
Fund Use: Fund use must be consistent with the priorities described above.
