State Targeted Assistance: Drop Out Prevention Work Group Summer Planning and Program Implementation

| Purpose: |
The purpose of this state-funded grant program is to enable districts participating in the Urban District Drop Out Prevention and Recovery Work Group to continue to plan and/or implement targeted programs to increase graduation rates for at-risk students in the districts. |
| Priorities: |
The priority of this grant is to provide funds to participating urban districts to:
convene the Drop Out Prevention and Recovery Work Group leadership team and other leaders to conduct intensive planning and development activities to address critical factors affecting the successful graduation of at-risk students; and/or
implement a research-based summer program for at-risk students that is targeted to address priority needs identified in the district's Drop Out and Recovery Work Plan. |
| Eligibility: | The Department will make awards to the following districts.

| Brockton | Lowell |
| Chelsea | Lynn |
| Everett | New Bedford |
| Fall River | Pittsfield |
| Fitchburg | Somerville |
| Haverhill | Springfield |
| Holyoke | Worcester |
| Lawrence |

| Funding: |
A total of $200,000 has been allocated for this grant program.
Districts that intend to use funds exclusively for planning activities (#1 under Priorities above) may apply for up to $4,000 each.
Districts that intend to use funds to implement a targeted summer program for at-risk students (#2 under Priorities above) may apply for additional funds using the following formula based on districts' total student enrollment.
24,000 or more students = $12,000
(Boston, Springfield, and Worcester)
10,000 - 23,999 students = $10,000
(Brockton, Lowell, Lynn, New Bedford, Lawrence, and Fall River)
-
5,000 - 9,999 students = $8,000
(Haverhill, Holyoke, Pittsfield, Leominster, Revere, Fitchburg, Chelsea, and Everett)
If all eligible districts do not apply for funds from both categories, there may be additional funds available for larger awards. |
| Fund Use: |
Funds can be used to support stipends, consultant services, and materials related directly to the implementation of the targeted student program. |
