National School Lunch: Equipment Assistance Competitive Grant Program

PURPOSE: The purpose of this federally-funded ARRA grant program is for equipment assistance to School Food Authorities participating in the National School Lunch Programs.

RESULT OF FUNDING: Funding will support the upgrading of integral pieces of food service equipment that are used daily in the production of meals for multiple child nutrition programs. Forty programs across the Commonwealth will be the recipients of the allocated funds. One hundred and fourteen individual program sites will receive one or more new pieces of food service equipment. The equipment selections were based on prioritized use of the four focus areas that encompassed expanded program participation, improved food quality with integration of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, enhanced food safety standards, and improved overall energy efficiency. Grant awards range from $5,143 to $235,640.
