Community Service-Learning Planning and Implementation Grants Program (Round Two)

PURPOSE: The goal of this federal Learn and Serve America grant program is to: increase the practice of service-learning as a methodology for implementing the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks K-12; support the institutionalization and sustainability of service-learning district-wide; improve the quality of service-learning initiatives; provide more opportunities for low-income students to engage in service-learning; and identify and address significant barriers to student achievement and, through service-learning and other activities, implement solutions to those barriers.

RESULT OF FUNDING: This grant program will assist 12 districts to engage students in their learning and in their communities by implementing community service-learning as a teaching methodology. The grants will support professional development, project implementation, and other related activities. Through these grants approximately 200 teachers will engage 6,500 students in service projects connected to curriculum. Grant awards range from $1,050 to $10,525.
