Purpose: The goals of this federal Learn and Serve America grant program are to:
- increase the practice of service-learning as a methodology for implementing the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks K-12;
- support the institutionalization and sustainability of service-learning district-wide;
- improve the quality of service-learning initiatives;
- provide more opportunities for low-income students to engage in service-learning; and
- identify and address significant barriers to student achievement and, through service-learning and other activities, implement solutions to those barriers.

| Result of Funding: This grant program will help four (4) districts engage students in their learning and in their communities by implementing community service-learning as a teaching methodology and/or by supporting professional development, project implementation, and other related activities. Through these grants, approximately 220 teachers will engage 3,500 students in service projects connected to curriculum. Grant awards range from $1,050 to $10,500. |
