Readiness Schools Preliminary Planning Grant

PURPOSE: The purpose of the grant program is to support the Commonwealth's new Readiness Schools initiative. The Readiness Schools initiative is aimed at improving school performance and student achievement through the establishment of innovative, in-district public schools with high degrees of flexibility and autonomy. All Readiness Schools will operate under a performance contract approved by the local school committee. Readiness Schools can be established as new schools or as conversions of existing schools.

RESULT OF FUNDING: Grantees will be provided with funds to explore the feasibility of establishing Readiness Advantage or Readiness Alliance Schools. The goal of the preliminary planning process is to enable grantees (and as applicable, their partners) to develop an initial plan related to the establishment of one or more Readiness Schools. The districts include a range of size, a mix of urban and non-urban communities, and geographical diversity as well as varying levels of NCLB accountability status. Grant awards range from $10,000 to $38,676.
