Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2009

Perkins IV Rural Districts 2008-2009
Fund Code: 409

Purpose: The purpose of this federal competitive grant program is to improve career and technical education programs in rural districts. The grant will assist rural districts that will not be recipients of Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act (Perkins IV) allocation funds due to minimum amount requirements and/or lack of personnel and resources needed to form or join a consortium in order to prepare a Local Plan.
Priorities: The priorities are to improve existing career and technical education programs and the outcomes for students enrolled in the programs.
Eligibility:

In order to apply for a grant, districts must meet all three (3) of the following criteria. Districts:

  1. must be defined as rural * in the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES);

  2. must have student enrollment in non-Chapter 74 career and technical education programs in the Student Information Management System (SIMS) for October 2007; and

  3. will not have a Perkins Act Local Plan for 2008-2009.

* To determine rural status, go to the applicable district profile that is accessible at http://profiles.doe.mass.edu/. Select the NCES ID link. Districts or high schools identified as rural by an Old Locale Rural 6, 7, or 8 code are considered rural for the purpose of this Request for Proposals.

Funding: Districts may apply for one competitive grant of up to $15,000. It is anticipated that several $15,000 grants will be awarded. Perkins IV is the funding source.
Fund Use:

Proposed uses of funds must be consistent with at least some of the Nine Required Uses of Perkins IV Allocation Grant Funds described in the Massachusetts Perkins IV Manual  Download MS WORD Document .

Awarded funds must be used in accordance with the approved proposal and grant application.
