Community Adult Learning Center
Program Service Option 4 - Volunteer Tutoring Component
Fund Code: 340/345

Purpose: The purpose of this grant program is to provide students enrolled in Community Adult Learning Centers with effective supplementary instruction provided by well-trained volunteers.
Priorities:

Priorities are to:

  1. strengthen the ability of Community Adult Learning Centers to serve the students most in need of literacy; and

  2. support programs and/or collaborations that provide a comprehensive volunteer tutoring component that includes orientation, screening, training, and ongoing support for volunteers.

Eligibility: Eligible applicants are currently funded Community Adult Learning Centers with Volunteer Tutoring Components.

Fund Use:

Community Adult Learning Centers must use funds to support a minimum of .25 FTE or a .5 FTE Volunteer Coordinator. The .25 FTE Volunteer Coordinator will be required to maintain a minimum active caseload of 20 tutor matches with a minimum of 12 tutors. The .50 FTE Coordinator will be required to maintain a minimum active case load of 35 volunteer tutor matches with a minimum of 24 tutors.

Applicants proposing a volunteer tutoring component in collaboration with one or more additional Department funded programs, must use funds to support a .75 or 1 FTE Volunteer Coordinator. The .75 FTE Volunteer Coordinator will be required to maintain a minimum active caseload of 50 tutor matches with a minimum of 36 tutors. Applicants proposing a 1 FTE Coordinator serving more than one Department funded program will be required to maintain a minimum active caseload of 65 tutor matches with a minimum of 48 tutors.
