Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2009

Primary Instruction by Volunteers
Fund Code: 287

Purpose: The purpose of this grant program is to provide adults who cannot or will not enroll in class based instructional services at a Community Adult Learning Center with access to effective Adult Basic Education services.
Priorities:

The priorities are to support:

  1. programs that provide one-to-one Adult Basic Education (ABE) instruction through the use of well-trained volunteers as the primary service delivery model; and

  2. organizations with the capacity to deliver volunteer tutoring programs throughout the state or a significant portion of the state.

Eligibility: Eligible applicants are Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts and English at Large.

Fund Use: Funds may be used for ABE instructional services, delivered by well-trained volunteers. Computer literacy (basic skills and abilities that support the use of computers) may be offered as a supplemental instructional component.
