Program and Staff Development Regional Support Centers for Adult Basic Education

PURPOSE: The purpose of this grant program is to improve teaching, strengthen programs, and improve student outcomes in the Commonwealth's Adult Learning Centers through the provision of coordinated opportunities for high-quality program and staff development and other supports so that Adult Basic Education programs may meet their goals and those of their students. This grant program will fund a statewide system of Program and Staff Development Regional Support Centers for Fiscal Year 2009.

RESULT OF FUNDING: Subject to the approval of the FY2009 state budget for Adult Basic Education (line item 7035-0002), funding will support staffing, consultant fees, equipment, materials, and other training costs for the five (5) Regional Support Centers that provide professional development for approximately 2,000 practitioners in nearly 100 Adult Basic Education programs funded by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Grant awards range from $336,500 to $497,321.
