Title II-B: Massachusetts Mathematics and Science Partnership Program (MMSP)

PURPOSE: The purpose of this federal grant program is to improve student achievement in mathematics, science, and technology/engineering through intensive, high-quality professional development activities that focus on deepening teachers' content knowledge. Funded programs will be eligible for two additional years of funding based on yearly progress towards meeting their established goals and objectives. In years two (2) and three (3) of the program, recipients may receive additional funds depending of the number of course offerings.

RESULT OF FUNDING: This grant award will fund eight (8) partnerships that include high need school districts, mathematics and science departments at institutions of higher education, and other partners. These partnerships will involve approximately 25 school districts and 500 teachers who are currently teaching mathematics, science, and technology/engineering. Substantial courses of study will be offered primarily to upper elementary and middle school teachers to enhance their content knowledge in mathematics and science. Follow-up activities are also provided to support the implementation of the content from the courses into the classroom. Grant awards range from $157,975 to $284,913.
