Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2008

Gifted and Talented Implementation Support

Purpose: The purpose of this state-funded grant is to provide funding for districts with a well-established gifted and talented program to function as a pilot resource/learning center to provide implementation support for gifted and talented programs in its geographic region. This pilot program would include providing teams from surrounding districts with practical support as they work to implement effectively gifted and talented programs. Assistance would include access to district curricular materials, opportunities to consult with teachers and administrators involved in the effective program, and observation of gifted and talented programs and classroom instruction.
Priorities: Priority will be given to districts that have a well-established gifted and talented program, a strong commitment, and the capacity to provide support to districts needing assistance in implementing a program and/or services for advanced/gifted students. Where possible, grants will be awarded to districts from different parts of the state.
Eligibility: All school districts, charter schools, and educational collaboratives with established programs for advanced/gifted students are eligible to apply.
Funding: A total of $20,000 is available. Up to two (2) grants may be awarded. Each applicant may submit a proposal for up to $10,000.
Fund Use: Funds may be used to cover costs of stipends for additional staff time, substitutes, space, materials, and equipment to create a resource/learning center, printing, and postage.
