Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2008

Career Center Grants for Workforce Investment Boards (WIB) Sites
Fund Code: 342

Purpose: The purpose of this grant program is to provide support for the operation of One-Stop Career Centers in the Massachusetts Workforce Development system in order to meet the needs of adults who require and are eligible, ready, and willing to enroll in Adult Basic Education services to enhance their prospects of gaining meaningful employment.
Priorities: The priority is to continue funding Workforce Investment Boards (WIB) or their Department-approved designee in order to support One-Stop Career Centers in meeting the needs of adults who require and are eligible, ready, and willing to enroll in Adult Basic Education services.
Eligibility:

Eligible applicants are those that have submitted:

  • a negotiated Memorandum of Understanding that indicates a choice of either Option 1 or Option 2 (See below.);

  • FY2007 quarterly reports; and

  • an annual report documenting the results of prior year collaboration with Career Centers.

Option 1 - Career Center staff provide intake, assessment, and referral services; or

Option 2 - A Department-approved program in the region provides such services within the Career Center one day per week. Funds for out-stationing are provided to the program by the Department/ACLS and are NOT included in the regional allocations listed below.

$452,917 is available and will be distributed as follows.

Funding is subject to appropriation approval and satisfactory past program performance. Funds in this category are continuation grants available only to Local Workforce Investment Boards or through their Department-approved designee.

Fund Use: Funds must be used to support Career Centers.
