Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2008

Commissioner's Districts School Support Grant
Fund Code: 323-A

Purpose: The purpose of this federal grant program is to support the state's largest urban districts and their Title I eligible schools in Restructuring, Corrective Action, or Improvement status by building capacity for sustained school improvement.
Priority: The priority is to enable districts to build capacity for school improvement through the implementation of specific initiatives as described in the FY2008 Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Education and each school district.
Eligibility: The Commissioner's Districts with eligible Title I schools may apply. These public school districts are Boston, Brockton, Fall River, Holyoke, Lawrence, Lowell, New Bedford, Springfield, and Worcester.
Funding:

Districts may apply for grants in amounts noted in email cover letters being sent to eligible districts.

Amounts are calculated using a formula based on the district's Title I student enrollment, enrollment of students in schools with state and federal accountability status, and enrollment of students in Commonwealth Priority Schools.

Fund Use: Expenditures should be consistent with initiatives described in the Memorandum of Understanding. (See the Priorities section above.)

Additional Information:
  • Each district's Memorandum of Understanding will be used to provide program details on resource use, deliverables, and measures of success.
