State Targeted Assistance Sustaining Success in Formerly Underperforming Schools
Fund Code: 221-F

Purpose: The purpose of this state-funded grant program is to support schools that have improved and sustained student performance to the extent that they are no longer in Underperforming status under the state school accountability system.
Priority: The priority is to enable schools to sustain improvement by supporting the continuation of the very instructional practices and initiatives that contributed to helping the school exit Underperforming status.
Eligibility:

The Department will make awards based upon enrollment to each of the four schools that were removed from Underperforming status by the Board of Education in November 2007 after having demonstrated both significant gains in student performance and the conditions needed to sustain quality improvement efforts. These schools and their awards are:

Arlington Elementary School Lawrence Liberty Elementary School Springfield Washington Elementary School Springfield
*Laurel Lake Elementary School Fall River $15,000
*$25,000
*$20,000
*$20,000
Funding: The Department estimates that up to $80,000 will be available for the four schools meeting the criteria described above.
Fund Use:

Expenditures should be consistent with the instructional practices and initiatives that contributed to helping the school exit Underperforming status and may include costs associated with continued professional development, including:

  1. stipends and in-state travel and expenses;

  2. salaries for supplemental tutoring and after-after school academic enrichment;

  3. supplies and materials; and
