| Purpose: | The purpose of this Year 2 federally-funded grant program is to support school districts to partner with the Massachusetts Department of Education by using technology to collect, manage, and analyze data to inform and enhance teaching and school improvement efforts. |
| Priorities: | Priority will be given to school districts that have participated in Year 1 implementation in one of the following projects.
Educational Data Warehouse Pilot Project
Formative Assessment Pilot Project - The Department has contracted with Assessment Technology, Inc. (ATI) to provide low-performing Massachusetts schools access and use of its instructional data system, Galileo Online. |
| Eligibility: |
Only those school districts that received Technology Enhancement Competitive Grants in FY2007 (Fund Code: 164) may apply for continuation grants in FY2008. Use Schedule C (Statement of Participation and Support) for partnership with other school districts.
In order to be eligible for the funding, school districts must have an approved long-range technology plan through 2008. They must have submitted the technology plan data forms online.
If appropriate, school districts must engage in timely and meaningful consultation with appropriate private school officials and continue the consultation throughout the implementation of these programs. |
| Funding: | Pending appropriation, approximately $482,063 will be awarded for this continuation grant program. The maximum amount for Year 2 is the difference between the amount approved originally and the amount spent in Year 1. For private school collaboration, the same amount of additional funds as given in Year 1 will be provided to eligible districts that have demonstrated timely and meaningful collaboration with private schools in their districts. |
| Fund Use: | Funds received shall be used to supplement, not supplant, state and/or local funds that would otherwise be used for the proposed activities.
At least 25% of the grant funds must be used for ongoing high-quality technology professional development. This may include payment for consultants, teacher substitutes, stipends, and materials for professional development. Although the following are acceptable expenditures, they may not be included as items identified for professional development: project coordination; purchase of hardware and software; program evaluation; dissemination; etc. Grant funds may not be used for space rental and food.
Each grant recipient should set aside 10% of grant funds to procure the services of an external evaluator. The Department will coordinate the selection of an external evaluator for each pilot project.
All budgets and budget descriptions must be aligned with the activities described in the proposal narrative and reflect any coordinated use of funds from other funding resources. |
