Title I School Improvement Regional Grant Program

PURPOSE: The purpose of this grant program is to provide federal school improvement funds to districts to address areas of common need among Title I schools in accountability status, including: professional development in data analysis; differentiating instruction; implementing school improvement initiatives; and developing professional learning communities. Also, funds will be used to provide summer instruction for students in lab settings that embed professional development for teachers in content knowledge and pedagogy.

RESULT OF FUNDING: Funding will support academic summer programs for students and professional development opportunities for teachers in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. Collaboration among the districts across five geographic regions will leverage available support from collaboratives and service providers. Participants will include:

  • Title I districts in Corrective Action;

  • districts with at least one Title I Commonwealth Priority School (schools identified for Corrective Action or Restructuring in the Aggregate); and

  • districts with at least one Title I school in Restructuring for subgroups in ELA and/or mathematics.

Funding will provide support for up to 158 eligible schools in 46 school districts, serving nearly 75,000 students. Grant awards range from $50,000 to $325,000.
