Gifted and Talented Services

| Purpose: | The purpose of this state-funded grant program is to identify K-8 advanced, gifted and talented students, and to raise their achievement. |
| Priorities: | Priority will be given to proposals that:
describe a plan to raise the achievement of underserved advanced/gifted students (low-income, minority, disabled, and limited English proficient students) and use multiple methods and instruments to identify them; describe existing school or district policies regarding services for advanced/gifted students or the intent to develop these policies through this grant funding; identify advanced instructional materials that are closely aligned with standards in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks; and demonstrate a working partnership among K-16 educators and parents and an awareness of current research in the field of advanced/gifted education. |
| Eligibility: | All school districts, charter schools, and educational collaboratives are eligible to apply. |
| Funding: | A total of $750,000 is available. Approximately 20 to 25 grants will be awarded. Each applicant may submit a proposal for up to $35,000. |
| Fund Use: | Funds may be used for project administration, professional development, consultants, materials for identification, instruction, or assessment of advanced/gifted students, fees for programs or online instruction for students, software, stipends, substitutes, and in-state and out-of-state travel for adults. Curriculum development, fees or travel expenses for conferences or competitions, and expenses for after-school activities during the traditional school year are not allowable grant expenditures. |
