Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2007

Fund Code: 165
Partnership for Technology Professional Development

INCREASE FUNDS ALLOCATED: $35,000 (Federal)
PURPOSE: The purpose of this 15-month federal grant program is to support districts across the state to work collaboratively with three service providers (Virtual High Schools, CAST, and the Massachusetts Elementary School Principals' Association) to provide high-quality technology professional development using MassONE and/or in the use of MassONE, the state's online learning system. The goal of the professional development is to promote student learning, improve teaching practices, and provide districts with capacity-building solutions through the use of innovative educational practices and the use of MassONE. Professional development activities may be delivered online, face-to-face, or using a combination of both approaches. The additional funding will allow the funded district to expand the professional development activities and evaluate the impact in the classroom.
NUMBER OF PROPOSALS RECOMMENDED: The original proposal was approved at the May 2006 Board of Education meeting.
RESULT OF FUNDING: The additional funding will allow 60 teachers in the high-need district to receive the professional development directly from the three providers. Consequently, they will train an additional 1,200 teachers in the district. This funding will also provide an opportunity for the teachers to implement what they have learned in the classroom and evaluate the impact on student learning. The amount of the increase is $35,000.
