Alternative Education Program for Suspended and Expelled Students and Other At-Risk Students

PURPOSE: The purposes of the grant program are to:

  1. assist school districts to develop and establish middle school and high school level alternative education programs and services for students suspended or expelled from school; or

  2. provide for students, who are at risk of dropping out of school, alternative education programs that:

    • implement self-improvement, behavior management, and life skills training;

    • use family-based approaches; and

    • assist students and teachers during the transition of students back to general education classrooms.

RESULT OF FUNDING: This grant program will assist eight (8) school districts in the development or improvement of alternative education options for 280 at risk students. Grant awards range from $52,700 to $83,485.
